First Marine Solutions (FMS) has appointed experienced marine and offshore engineering professional Colin Ellis as Head of Projects, supporting the continued development of its project capabilities in the UK and internationally.
Colin brings more than 20 years of industry experience to the role, with a background spanning naval architecture, marine engineering, project management and offshore execution.
A graduate of the University of Strathclyde with a master’s degree in Naval Architecture and Ocean Engineering, Colin began his career working on mooring and cable installation projects, FPSO conversions and engineering consultancy assignments. He subsequently spent approximately 15 years with InterMoor, progressing through marine design and project engineering roles before becoming Head of Projects.
Most recently, Colin worked as Project Technical Manager at DOF. He has specialised in the mooring sector since 2010, developing extensive experience in the engineering and delivery of complex offshore projects.
As Head of Projects at FMS, Colin will lead the continued development of the company’s project offering, complementing its established rig moving and survey capabilities. A key focus will be growing FMS’s involvement in permanent mooring systems, decommissioning and renewable energy projects.
Working closely with the company’s sales and technical teams, he will also support business development and the continued growth of the projects team. His role has an international remit, encompassing FMS’s established Aberdeen operations and its new office in Kuala Lumpur, Malaysia.
Colin said: “FMS has a strong foundation of technical expertise, operational experience and established capability within the mooring sector. There is a real opportunity to build on that and expand the range and scale of projects we deliver, particularly within permanent mooring systems, decommissioning and renewables. I’m looking forward to working with the team, supporting its continued development and helping to grow the business both in the UK and internationally.”
