First Marine Solutions partnered with an oil major to provide comprehensive survey and positioning support throughout multiple phases of an FPSO disconnect relocation project. Over a 9-month period, six vessels were deployed to facilitate various mooring and unmooring operations for the FPSO. We played a pivotal role by deploying our tailored surface positioning and telemetry systems to ensure the project’s success.

Using our extensive experience of mooring systems and the marine environment, we optimise our clients’ floating foundation options, deployment method and vessel selection, based on the mooring components and their operating strategy. We provide offshore wind projects with the knowledge and data to create savings in time and costs.

The Foinaven field is situated approximately 120 miles west of Shetland. Production from the field was through the Petrojarl Foinaven floating, production, storage, offload (FPSO) vessel. The FPSO reached the end of its design life in 2021 and was removed for decommissioning in 2022.

Tidal turbine developer Nautricity Ltd approached FMS in order to provide an installation solution for their prototype grid connected 500kW tidal turbine unit which was to be installed at the European Marine Energy Centre full scale test site.

A key client had suffered several mooring integrity failures over the previous years resulting in additional risk and costs associated with recovery of failed moorings, asset downtime, as well as reputational damage.

FMS’s approach resulted in reducing downtime due to mooring related failures and provided the Operator with the peace of mind that the rig was moored safely without seeing rig moving and mooring installation timings increase.
